Kentucky Derby Day Meeting at Joanne & Dick Partch's

Great Day and Great Party

Its not often that we can get a picture of the Ski Club members at the edge of a lake dressed in Summer clothes.

While Andy, Bob, Ron, Buckley, Tellie, Louise, Heather, Debbie Parsons, Bob, Dorothy, Andy and Jim were enjoying the patio.

Ron had a familiar pose, and Ellen and Doris decided to join the patio group.
Inside Dick, Paul, Joan, Margaret and Angie were touring the Partch's house.

But Bob and Bill were working -- getting ready for the Kentucky Derby.

And They Are OFF!

The Derby was a wide open field of 19 horses.
The track odds really meant nothing, so many of us had a fist full of tickets. Throughout the race every one shouted their horses on, and as usual no one knew if they had win, place or show. Of course the photo finish for place and show didn't help!.

In case its still not clear, this is the order of finish.

Potsdam Apres Ski Club Business Meeting

Saturday, May 1, 1999

Derby Day meeting was held at the Partches.  Present: Dave & Tellie Bray, Bob & Ellen Burns, Andy Casper & Angela Machinak, Doris & Ron Frazer, Joan LaComb & Paul McGrath, Bill & Dorothy Mein, Bob & Shirley Metcalf, Bob & Susan Meyer, Heather Nelson, Dick & Joanne Partch, Bill & Cathy Petersen, Buckley Riggs, Louise Straub, and Jim & Margaret Thorp.  Guests: Dick and Debbie Parsons.

• The gathering started with hors d'oeuvres, and then a photo shoot down by the water.  After the derby race, a delicious meal was enjoyed and then the meeting.

• Dave Bray made the tickets up for the race.  They were very impressive, even had a picture of a horse on them.  Nice job Dave!

• There were a number of winners, but the top pot went to Tellie.  Tellie and Dave assured us it had nothing to do with him making the tickets.

• This was the first meeting since December.  Various ski events were discussed.

  January cross-country: Held at Russ and Heather Nelson's.  Heather reported it went very well.  They skied on trails behind the Nelson's home that Russ groomed.  Small group attended.  Nice day for skiing.  This was a first in quite awhile for this event.

  February cross-country: La Petite Rouge trip was organized by Bob Meyer. Bob reported there wasn't much snow when everyone arrived on Friday, but it snowed while there so the conditions turned out nice for skiing.  The group was disappointed that the owners sold (seld) the horse and no longer have the horse drawn sleigh rides.  The group filled 2 large cabins, plus a small one.  Those that went: Buchanans, Forgacs/Szokie, Gibbs, Meins, Metcalfs, Meyers (including Julia and David), Nagels, Nelsons, and Thorps (including Zachery).

  March down-hill: Mt. Tremblaunt trip was organized by Gabor Forcgas.Gabor wasn't present so Shirley reported they had a nice time.  Ed & Loraine, Buckley, Shirley & Bob, Bill & Chyrstal and Gabor & Marta went.   Gabor and Marta hosted everyone for cocktails one evening in their home there.

• Thank yous were extended to the organizers of the three ski events for doing a great job.

• Joanne and Dick were also thanked for hosting Derby Day and preparing the bar-b-cue.

• The term for officers was over once again.  Dorothy & Bill felt, although there isn't much involved in being officers, that it would be nice for someone else to take over.  Bob Meyer said they would do it if it went back to a one year office. The Meyers are now President/Secretary/Treasurer, and Dorothy will remain Club Historian, which means she'll be the keeper of the minutes notebook, photo album and videos; and will update them as items are given to her.

• The next gathering will be the Summer Lamb Roast on Saturday, July 24 at Lorraine and Ed Kear's camp on Rainbow Lake.  Joan and Cathy volunteered to do the calling.

• Meeting ended; everyone left full and happy.

  P.S.  The Meins' missing wine glass resurfaced.  Not mentioning who walked off with it, but the initials are Ron and Doris!
